1. Day 1

   Bergen, Norway's charming coastal city and historic trading hub, is known for its picturesque Bryggen Wharf and rich maritime heritage. Must-do experiences include sampling local delicacies at the vibrant Fish Market and exploring the medieval Hanseatic quarter. The best season to visit is during the summer months, when the city's lively atmosphere and stunning fjord landscapes are at their peak.

2. Day 2

   Shetland Islands

   United Kingdom

   

   The Shetland Islands, Britain's most northerly archipelago, offer a dramatic blend of Norse heritage, spectacular seabird colonies, and raw Atlantic landscapes 60 degrees north. Must-dos include the puffin colonies at Sumburgh Head, the ancient Mousa Broch, and sampling Shetland lamb and hand-dived scallops. Visit May through August for the magical "simmer dim" near-perpetual daylight.

3. Day 3

   Torshavn

   Faroe Islands

   

   Tórshavn is the Faroe Islands' tiny capital city, where a thousand-year-old Viking parliament site, turf-roofed timber houses, and two-Michelin-starred dining coexist in one of the North Atlantic's most atmospheric settings. Visit from May through September for extraordinary hiking, midnight twilight, and a cultural scene that defies the city's diminutive size.

   Elduvík, Faroe Islands

   Elduvik is a tiny traditional hamlet on Eysturoy in the Faroe Islands, embodying centuries of subarctic pastoral life with its grass-roofed houses, medieval strip farming, and salt-grazed lamb. Visitors can hike to mountain ridges for panoramic fjord views, observe massive seabird colonies, and experience authentic Faroese culture. June and July offer the longest days, though waterproof gear is essential in any season.

   Húsavík, Europe's whale-watching capital on northern Iceland's Skjálfandi Bay, offers over ninety-five percent sighting rates of humpbacks, blue whales, and minke whales in nutrient-rich Arctic waters. A world-class whale museum and proximity to Dettifoss waterfall, Ásbyrgi canyon, and Mývatn's geothermal wonders extend the experience. HX Expeditions, Lindblad Expeditions, and Seabourn bring expedition travelers to this colorful fishing town where Arctic cuisine and cetacean encounters converge with quiet Icelandic authority.

8. Day 8

   Akureyri

   Iceland

   

   Akureyri, the cultural capital of northern Iceland, sits at the head of the majestic Eyjafjörður and serves as a gateway to some of the island's most dramatic landscapes, including the thundering Goðafoss waterfall, the volcanic wonderland of Lake Mývatn, and Europe's most powerful cascade at Dettifoss. Visitors should not miss the excursion to Mývatn's geothermal pools and the tasting of traditional *hangikjöt* smoked lamb at a harbourside restaurant. The ideal season to visit is June through August, when the midnight sun bathes the fjord in endless golden light and the botanical gardens reach their luminous peak.

    Jan Mayen Island

    Jan Mayen is one of Earth's most remote islands—a volcanic sliver in the Norwegian Sea crowned by Beerenberg, the world's northernmost active volcano, with no civilian population and no tourist facilities. Expedition highlights include Zodiac landings on volcanic beaches, seabird colonies, and whale sightings in surrounding waters. July and August offer the only landing window, subject to notoriously unpredictable weather.

Must-do experiences include Zodiac cruises along glacier fronts, wildlife watching for polar bears and walruses, and visiting the Global Seed Vault in Longyearbyen. June through September is the expedition season.

The best time to visit is during the summer months, when the midnight sun illuminates the stunning scenery.
